From two independent conference series to today's flagship IEEE IES event — 25 editions across four countries and counting.
CPE–POWERENG traces its roots to two independent conference series that ran in parallel for nearly a decade before joining forces in 2016.
Compatibility in Power Electronics (CPE) began in 1999 as "Power Electronics Devices Compatibility (PEDC)", a joint initiative of the Technical University of Zielona Góra (Poland) and the University of Applied Sciences Giessen-Friedberg (Germany), conceived as a discussion forum for power electronics specialists from Middle and Western Europe. It was renamed "Compatibility in Power Electronics" from its 2003 edition onward, and Gdynia Maritime University, Poland later became its main organizing institution.
POWERENG — the International Conference on Power Engineering, Energy and Electrical Drives — began in 2007 in Setúbal, Portugal, addressing the wider fields of power generation, transmission, distribution and electrical drives.
In 2016, the two series merged into a single conference, CPE–POWERENG, combining the 10th edition of CPE with the 6th edition of POWERENG. The unified numbering that continues today — bringing us to the 21st edition in Badajoz in 2027 — counts from that first CPE edition in 1999.
Badajoz previously hosted the 6th edition of CPE in 2009 — the city now returns to host the landmark 21st edition of CPE–POWERENG.
